Additional information

Students in the academic programme in interlingual communication will receive a high level of competence in language, culture, and contrastive textual skills in Slovene, English, and an additional foreign language (German, French or Italian) and will also receive basic translation competence. This means that after concluding the programme they will be capable of written and oral communication in Slovene and two foreign languages, and will be experts in three European cultures. Graduates of the programme in interlingual communication will be professionals capable of working in various areas of business, in public administration or services, and in organisations or cultural institutions that have extensive international contacts and an international clientele.

Transfer between programmes is defined in line with Articles 181–189 of the Statute of the University of Ljubljana.

Transfer to the programme in interlingual communication at the University of Ljubljana's Faculty of Arts

a) from universities is defined by Article 189 of the Statute of the University of Ljubljana:

• To transfer to the programme in interlingual communication at the University of Ljubljana's Faculty of Arts, applicants must satisfy the admission requirements for enrollment in an advanced year of the academic programme at the university where they are enrolled;
• The Senate of the University of Ljubljana's Faculty of Arts decides on the fulfillment of conditions for transfer and determines the applicants' placement test and other requirements, as well as the year in which they may enroll, at the proposal of the Department of Translation.

b) from academic programmes at the University of Ljubljana, it is possible to transfer to the programme in interlingual communication at the University of Ljubljana's Faculty of Arts only from programmes of first-level (undergraduate) university education; transfer is defined in line with Article 183 of the Statute of the University of Ljubljana:

• Transfer to the programme in interlingual communication is possible if, upon admission, at least half the applicant's requirements from the first academic programme are recognised;
• The applicant must meet the admission requirements for the first year of the programme in interlingual communication;
• The Senate of the University of Ljubljana's Faculty of Arts decides on the fulfillment of conditions for transfer and determines the applicants' placement test and other requirements, as well as the year in which they may enroll, at the proposal of the Department of Translation.

c) from the programme in translation studies at the University of Ljubljana's Faculty of Arts it is possible to transfer to the first-level (undergraduate) programme in interlingual communication at the Faculty of Arts under the following conditions, in line with Article 183 of the Statute of the University of Ljubljana:

• Transfer to the programme in interlingual communication is possible if upon enrollment in the programme in interlingual communication at least half the applicant's requirements fulfilled in the programme in translation studies are recognised;
• The applicant must satisfy the admission requirements for the first year of the programme in interlingual communication;
• The Senate of the University of Ljubljana's Faculty of Arts decides on the fulfillment of conditions for transfer and determines the applicants' placement test and other requirements, as well as the year in which they may enroll, at the proposal of the Department of Translation.

c) from the programme in translation studies at the University of Ljubljana's Faculty of Arts it is possible to transfer to the first-level (undergraduate) programme in interlingual communication at the Faculty of Arts under the following conditions, in line with Article 183 of the Statute of the University of Ljubljana:

• Transfer to the programme in interlingual communication is possible if upon enrollment in the programme in interlingual communication at least half the applicant's requirements fulfilled in the programme in translation studies are recognised;
• The applicant must satisfy the admission requirements for the first year of the programme in interlingual communication;
• The Senate of the University of Ljubljana's Faculty of Arts decides on the fulfillment of conditions for transfer and determines the applicants' placement test and other requirements, as well as the year in which they may enroll, at the proposal of the Department of Translation.

To complete the undergraduate programme in interlingual communication, students must complete all obligations defined by the programme and the syllabuses for subjects required for their chosen option totalling 180 CR. Students must prepare and defend a term paper as part of an elective undergraduate seminar (class with a term paper) and take an undergraduate-level exam as defined by the programme requirements.

Since 1997 the Department of Translation at the University of Ljubljana has been the only higher education institution in Slovenia offering a university degree (BA) in translation. The first students graduated in 2002. The only other such institution in Slovenia that is training translators began in 2008, and offers the title: University Graduate in Translation and Interpreting. Thus the data after 2002 on University Graduates in Translation relate mainly to our graduates. The tables below indicate the statistical data provided by Slovenia's Employment Service.

In 2008 a survey was made by the Department of Translation, asking our graduates about their employment situation. The results are presented below.
