Baroque Stucco Marble Altars: Materials, Conservation and Meaning

15–16 September 2026 | National Gallery of Slovenia, Ljubljana

The international conference Baroque Stucco Marble Altars: Materials, Conservation and Meaning will take place at the National Gallery of Slovenia in Ljubljana on 15 and 16 September 2026.

The conference will examine Baroque stucco marble altars from different perspectives, focusing on their materiality, workshop practices, artistic exchanges and the mobility of craftsmen, as well as questions of their conservation and restoration. By bringing together specialists from different fields, it will provide a platform for the exchange of art-historical, archival, scientific and conservation-restoration approaches, contributing to a more comprehensive understanding of these works, their artistic and cultural significance, material composition, and the circumstances of their production and preservation.
