About the Department of Translation Studies

Study at the Department of Translation

The Department of Translation Studies offers translation programmes involving different language combinations. Single degree courses include Slovene and English, combined with German, French or Italian, while in combined degree courses Slovene is combined with either English, German, French or Italian.

Our students not only gain in-depth knowledge of language, culture and literature, but also learn to use state-of-the-art language and translation technologies, essential for translators and interpreters. The Department of Translation Studies also fosters students’ digital and IT skills required to meet the challenges of contemporary multilingual and multicultural society.

Our alumni have gone on to succeed in a wide range of careers in the fast-growing language industry and other fields requiring an excellent knowledge and understanding of foreign languages and cultures. Our graduates work as translators and interpreters in various Slovene and EU institutions, are employed at embassies or work for international companies; some also excel in related fields, including international relations and public relations, while some of our alumni also pursue a career in research.
