The course is divided into two units:
a) German-Slovene Contrastive Grammar 1
b) German Language and Translation 3
a) German-Slovene Contrastive Grammar 1:
Students build on their grammatical competences gained during the first two years of the cycle, extending their knowledge to contrastive grammar between German and Slovene. They gain familiarity with translation-relevant contrastive analysis methods and topics; e.g., congruence between subject and predicator, non-finite verb forms, special groups of verbs (transitive – intransitive, reflexive verbs, etc.), definite vs. indefinite forms of the adjective in Slovene, comparison of adjectives, usage of pronouns, modality, the noun-oriented tendency in German, aspectuality, passive voice, (in)animate subjects, negation and other contrastive-relevant topics.
b) German Language and Translation 3:
Students deal with a series of topics, including from a translation perspective, which helps them expand their topic-related vocabulary while cultivating idiomatic German usage and strengthening their translation skills. Written expression techniques investigate advanced forms of the writing process, which students apply to the writing skills gained during the first two years. Students also consolidate and improve their knowledge of some more demanding morphological and syntactic structures.
